A New Headmaster For King’s In 2017

Dear Friends, Colleagues and Members of The King’s School Community

After 27 years as Headmaster, 19 of which will have been at King’s, Jane and I think it appropriate to pursue new adventures.

We have advised the School Council that at the end of 2016, the responsibility for the School’s leadership will need to pass to someone else.

Because the new Headmaster will probably be required to give a years notice to their current employer, the Council of The King’s School will begin their search for the 20th Headmaster of King’s this weekend. The aim will be to make an appointment by the end of this year, or very soon thereafter.

The time to leave as Headmaster is when a school is in good shape and when you are still accepted as being tolerably effective as the hand on the helm. The King’s School is strong, and can withstand a change of headship with impunity.

With the help of an outstanding School Executive, the Council of The King’s School has charted an educational course over the last 19 years to create:

a Christian community that seeks to make an outstanding impact for the good of society through its students and by the quality of its teaching and leadership in education.

The King’s School of the future will remain committed to this cause.

All the signs suggest that the next ten years for King’s are going to be enormously productive. Record enrolments, a vigorous building program and a range of visionary teaching initiatives means that King’s will continue to flourish.

Jane and I have loved being at King’s and will greatly miss the collegiality, friendship and warmth of an outstanding school community. However, we are also excited by fresh challenges and by what might be found over the horizon.
